Black cockatoos are enormous birds with equally enormous characters to match their size! I am so drawn to their personality and beauty - and of course adore their cheeky smiles and funny antics. My love affair with them first started during the pandemic when I noticed them on my daily walks. Occasionally they fly in great flocks past my studio window - their distinctive cries are unmistakable and always fill my heart.
This is my first of a series of paintings of the black cockatoos. I made this by drawing and then painting each element, painstakingly cutting around the individual artworks and assembling it on a painted background.
Like a group of family and friends they are hanging out together having a huge lark amongst the beauty of an Australian red gum tree.
Original artwork
Pen & ink, crayon, watercolour & collage on paper
